Urg.. People I know are making nyan-cat references. It’s U.N. Owen all over again.
Guys: Here’s a timeline of how this meme started, so you can understand what pain this is giving me, a Touhou fan, that people are ignoring in this. (oh god, this is McRoll all over again)
Assuming you’ve been living under a rock for ten years and don’t understand a thing about this, this is what is annoying me at the moment:
Don’t get me wrong: there’s nothing wrong with the video, but everything wrong with the audience.
This video is as early as you can go with this meme. A Japanese composer on Nico Nico, DaniwellP, created the track ” Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya,” accompanied with a video of Hatsune Miku doing a little “Dance.”
It got popular and more versions were made:
..and it shortly came to the Touhou world in this form:
And got reanimated to this:
That’s where it really got popular. Hundreds of versions of this improved “Nyanyanyanya” came flying in.
Then this little gif of a poptart cat appeared on tumblr.
It was cool and all, and suited the track, so the gif and the song combined.
And got popular, thanks to RayWilliamJohnson.
But that’s where it all went wrong. RayWilliamJohnson, failed to research the video he was hosting, leading to comments like this on the originals:
And when I even show my friends the original they reply with “What the hell?” or “Argh.. the Japanese are copying us” or stupid shit like that.
Oh, and please keep your shitty American music out of my Japan.
